All horses are purebred Lusitano horses from renowned Portuguese stud farms. The centre is home to more than 20 Lusitanos, including stallions, geldings and mares, with several trained to advanced level.

Depending on your experience and objectives, you may have the opportunity to work on movements such as piaffe and passage.

Horse welfare is paramount. Before each session, horses are groomed to perfection, with flowing manes and tails brushed, hooves dressed and brushing boots fitted. Regular turnout in paddocks keeps them healthy, relaxed and happy.

Rider Requirements:

• Minimum age: 13 years

• Maximum weight: 90 kg, 200 lb

• Hard hats are mandatory

Riding equipment provided includes helmets and short chaps.

Lessons and Riding Programmes

All lessons are private and last approximately 50 minutes.

Dressage saddles with double bridles are used as standard. Guests may also request to ride in traditional Portuguese saddles.

You may warm up with one instructor and continue your lesson with another. Multiple lessons may take place at the same time, with headsets often used to ensure clear and individual instruction.

When you are not riding, there is much to be gained from watching other guests’ lessons or observing the instructors training the horses.

Try Working Equitation:

Experienced dressage riders may be able to exchange one lesson for a session in the traditional Portuguese discipline of Working Equitation.

If you wish to try Working Equitation, please request this at the time of booking and confirm again with your instructor on arrival. Sessions are subject to ground conditions, availability and rider ability.

Equestrian Facilities

The equestrian centre has been carefully designed, combining elegance with functionality. Facilities include:

Estate Rides

Subject to availability and riding level, guests may be able to enjoy a guided tour of the estate on horseback.

This experience must be booked and paid for locally and costs approximately €135 per person for 50 minutes.

Guest Experience

Guests are well catered for with a welcoming riders’ lounge. The indoor arena viewing gallery features sliding windows, allowing you to watch lessons in comfort and continue learning even when you are not riding.

After your lesson, relax on the terrace with a refreshing drink from the bar, or during cooler months enjoy a coffee by the fire.

Accommodation:

Guests stay in a collection of stylish rustic guest cottages set within the estate. In total, there are nine comfortable rooms across four guest cottages. All bedrooms have private bathrooms, most of them en suite.

When booking, guests are allocated a room within a shared cottage. Each cottage offers:

• A shared living room with television and music player

• A garden or terrace area

• A small kitchen with fridge, ideal for preparing tea, coffee or enjoying a cold drink from the honesty bar

All rooms are equipped with air conditioning and heating to ensure comfort throughout the year. Each room also includes a safe deposit box, hair dryer, towels and bed linen. Rooms are available as single or double occupancy.

Please note that if there is no one to share a room with, a single room supplement will apply.

Estate Facilities

Guests are welcome to enjoy a range of leisure facilities during their stay, including:

• Outdoor swimming pool, open daily from 10:00 to 19:00

• Small gym

• Table tennis

• Tennis court

• Basketball court

Meals are served in the main dining room. The guest cottages are approximately a 10 minute walk from the riding centre, and bicycles are available for those who prefer a quicker journey.

Dining and Cuisine

All stays include full board, with breakfast, lunch and dinner served daily. The cuisine is simple, fresh and local, with an emphasis on seasonal, organic ingredients, many of which are produced on the estate itself.

Upon arrival, guests receive a complimentary bottle of wine per room. Additional wine may be enjoyed throughout the stay and is settled at the end of the visit, with prices starting from approximately €9 per bottle.

Lounge Bar

Located next to the stables, the lounge bar offers wine, beer and a selection of other beverages. This cosy space features a fireplace and television, making it an ideal place to relax and socialise, particularly during the cooler months.

Wine Estate Experience:

As a wine producing estate, guests are invited to enjoy a curated selection of locally produced wines, including several award winning labels.

Each room receives a complimentary bottle of the estate’s rosé wine as a welcome drink. Guests may choose an alternative wine, with any price difference payable locally.

A variety of wines are available for purchase during the stay, and where permitted by destination country regulations, wines can also be shipped directly to guests’ homes.

Public transport is also an option. You can take a bus from Sete Rios bus station in Lisbon to Lourinhã.
