3 NORWAY ITINERARIES

Information Concerning all Rides in NORWAY

  • The Icelandic horse are small but mighty! They are known for their surefootedness and gentle nature, and they are famous for the Tölt, a gait unique to the breed, which makes them incredibly comfortable over great distances and rugged terrain. Riding an Icelandic horse is an authentic experience you won’t forget. These horses are not only strong but also friendly and affectionate- they love a good cuddle!

    Although the Icelandic horses are strong, there’s a weight limit of 95kg. Nevertheless, the weight limit may depend on the riding skills and experience of the rider.

    Groups from 4 to 10 riders.

    Safety: the riding operator reserves the right to alter the itinerary and riding tours if necessary.

  • Individual travel insurance is not included in the tour price. We encourage all guests to contact their travel insurance before visiting Norway.

  • Make sure to bring comfortable riding clothes and shoes! We recommend high riding boots with a heel, but low boots are also acceptable. Make sure to bring a couple pairs of comfortable shoes, such as hiking or rubber boots, in case they get wet. Bring plenty of layers and wool clothing.

    We will provide a detailed packing list before the trip.

  • Fly to: Evenes (EVE) or Leknes (LKN)

    There are direct flights to Evenes from several major European cities.

    Otherwise, you can fly from Oslo Gardermoen via Bodø to Svolvær or Leknes. We recommend that you book your ticket all the way through one provider, at www.sas.no or www.wideroe.no. That way you’re covered if your flight across the fjord is delayed or cancelled.

    Airport Transfer: Transfer is included from and to Leknes or Svolvær, between 08.00AM and 18.00PM.

    Transfers can be arranged earlier and later at additional cost. For environmental reasons, several transports might be coordinated, so expect to wait a while before being picked up at the airport. Information about this will be given in advance so that you can use the time for some sightseeing in Leknes or Svolvær.

    Rental car: rent a car in Lofoten if you want to visit the island, as many areas are unreachable by bus. There are several rental car in Lofoten and Evenes, such as: Avis, Budget, Hertz, Sixt car hire and Rent A Car Lofoten.

    This ride operator is located about 45 kilometres from Svolvær and about 50 kilometres from Leknes.

    Liability: The ride operator reserves the right to alter routes, itineraries or timetables without prior notice, should the necessity arise and depending on road or weather conditions.

MOUNTAINS OF LOFOTEN

A challenging riding experience through Lofoten’s varied terrain, from open valleys to steep trails in the mountains, with spectacular views around every turn. This ride is especially designed for experienced rider in good physical condition, comfortable handling a horse in different types of terrain and open to lead their horse on foot in the steepest sections.

  • Day 1 - Sunday: Arrival at the farmhouse and a 3–4-hour Midnight Sun Ride until 2 am.

    Check in after 4PM, relax, have dinner and meet your guide for the week. Then start with a 3-4 hour midnight sun ride (aprox 15-20 km) with some hot drink and midnight snack.

    Day 2 - Monday: Tour to Storknubben

    After a late breakfast, ride towards Storknubben and Trolltjønna (Troll Lake) with an open view towards the north of Lofoten. It’s a 20 km long ride with a lot of climbing. After a lunch in the nature, either join a guided hike by foot to the top of Storknubben (600 meters above sea level) or just relax at our mountain basecamp. Then ride down to Gjendalen where we leave our horses for the night. Transfer back to the farm and dinner.

    Day 3 - Tuesday: Half day tour home from Gjendalen and beach ride

    After breakfast, transfer to collect the horses in Gjendalen. We stop at Vinjedalen and ride down to Vinje beach to test different gates on the shore. Light lunch with the horses kept in hand at a terrace in a nice, local atmosphere. Hot sauna in the evening and a swim in the arctic sea for the most adventurous.

    Day 4 - Wednesday: Veten at Vestvågøy

    After breakfast, transfer to Tjønndalen, where the horses are awaiting. Ride up the mountains to the top of Veten (400 meters above sea level). A spectacular view awaits. Then ride down to enjoy a lunch at Aaland gård goat cheese farm. After lunch we ride back to Tjønndalen to leave our horses for the night before we head back to the guesthouse and have dinner.

    Day 5 - Thursday: Slydalen and Kamman

    After breakfast, transfer to Tjønndalen and ride towards Vendalsjord before we ride up Slydalen and towards Vårliheia, up to Kamman (400 meters above sea level) and Djupdalen. Enjoy a lunch with great views, then ride back down to Tjønndalen.

    Day 6 – Friday: Day off

    After breakfast, we suggest a guided hiking tour to a close mountain or a visit to Henningsvær picturesque fishing village after lunch.

    Day 7 – Saturday: Cross the mountains to Unstad

    After breakfast, transfer Tjønndalen. Ride down Løvdalen and towards Bøstad where we cross the mountains to Saupstad. Enjoy a great lunch at Lofoten Gårdsysteri before we ride the last stretch up and down of the old road to Unstad, where the tour ends by the beach.

    Special dinner on the boathouse at the farm.

    Day 8 – Sunday: Farewell Breakfast and Departure

    After breakfast, check out at 12 AM and transfer to Leknes or Svolvær airports

Ride in the footsteps of the Vikings! Experience on horseback the landscape, culture and history of Lofoten island. In May, June and July, you can experience the midnight sun. In August we have perpetual sunsets. In September and October, you’ll experience the beautiful autumn colours and, if you’re lucky, the Northern Lights.

  • Day 1: Arrival and midnight sun ride

    Transfer from Leknes or Svolvær and check in. After dinner, first ride for about 2 hours. This is an easy ride to get familiar with the guides and the horses. In April, late August, September and October we might see the northern lights. In late May, June and July, we have the endless light of the midnight sun.

    Day 2: Gimsøy

    Ride on the old Viking Roads, tölt and maybe gallop on the amazing white arctic beach. Lunch either in the nature or at a local café —depending on the weather.

    Duration: 4-6 hours depending on weather

    Day 3: Aalan Gård

    Ride on another island of Lofoten, surrounded by beautiful sceneries. Visit the famous farm called Aalan Gård and taste their homemade lunch along with many of their famous goat cheeses.

    Day 4: Gimsøy

    Ride to a remote area on the west side of the farm, to a “hidden beach”, with lunch in nature. A beautiful and wild scenery all day.

    Day 5: Unstad

    We continue exploring on horseback our neighbour island, enjoying the spectacular views. Lunch at Lofoten Gardsysteri, a local cheese farm.

    Day 6: Departure

    After breakfast, check out at 12 AM and transfer to Leknes or Svolvær.

Snow Fun & northern lights

This is the perfect trip to experience the arctic winter, some really fun rides in the snow and the magic of the northern lights.

  • 5 nights / 4 riding days

  • Intermediate to advanced riders

This trip involves extensive riding in the snow and under the northern lights. Due to low temperatures, rides are of medium length, ensuring comfort while remaining highly enjoyable. The guesthouse is ideally located for northern lights viewing, with open views to the north and minimal light pollution to enhance the experience.

  • Day 1 - Sunday: Arrival and Northern Lights Ride

    Check in after 4PM, relax, have dinner, then meet your guide for the week and start around 10 PM with your first ride, the northern lights ride until midnight.

    Day 2 - Monday: Tour to Vinje beach

    After a late breakfast, start the

    ride around 11AM, towards Vinje beach. If conditions allow it, we ride over the Viking Road and nature reserve. Nice lunch at a small local shop before riding back home in the snow.

    After dinner, enjoy the sauna by the beach, and a swim in the arctic sea if you feel brave enough.

    If you are lucky, you will experience the northern lights, either from

    the restaurant, the sauna or the guesthouse.

    Day 3 - Tuesday: Aaland Gård and Borgvåg

    After breakfast, transfer with the horses to Vestvågøy and do a ride on gravel roads to Borgvåg before ending up at Aaland gård for a delicious lunch at this award-winning goat farm.

    Meet the goats and taste their famous cheeses.

    After dinner, take a walk down to the beach to experience the northern lights. If the weather allows it, we’ll light a bonfire.

    Day 4 - Wednesday: Explore Lofoten and snowshoe hike

    Day off riding. After breakfast, go on an excursion to Henningsvær. It’s a cosy fishing village, around 30 min drive away. Experience the different galleries, shops with local craftsmanship and more. Lunch at one of the fish restaurant then back home in the afternoon.

    After dinner, we go snowshoeing in search of the Northern Lights with headlamps, going up along the mountain Hoven to get the best view.

    Day 5 - Thursday: Eggum and final dinner in the boathouse

    After a late breakfast, transfer to Eggum for a scenic half day ride by the coast line of Vestvågøy.

    For the last evening, you are invited to have dinner on the boat house by the beach. Hopefully the northern lights will be part of the moment. If the weather is not good enough, dinner will take place at the restaurant or guest house.

    Day 6 – Sunday: Farewell Breakfast and Departure

    After breakfast, check out at 12 AM and transfer to Leknes or Svolvær.
